In Search of a Green Card

In Search of a Green Card

A little over two years ago I sat down at a table with a young man who had just moved to San Antonio.  He had arrived about week before and had learned that Oak Hills Church was looking to higher a part-time audio visual technician. Within a matter of a few minutes it became crystal clear that he was the right one for the team. Fast forward two years and he is now leading a team as the Technical Director. Allow me to introduce you to Steve Cobb.

I am sure Steve now realizes how much life can change in two years.  In addition to taking on the role of a team leader, he has led worship at Oak Hills on several occasions, launched a new ministry website- SteveCobbMusic,  recorded an amazing album “Revolution of Love“and also married a charming Brazilian woman by the name of Aline. Wow! It has been really cool to see how God has been equipping Steve for opportunities He already had prepared for him.

Steve and Aline were married a couple of months ago and now they must work to get Aline approved to stay in the States. This means that Aline must get a Green Card which is no small feat and expensive – $1000.

I was encouraged when I learned a Facebook page had been set up to help Steve and Aline pull together the funds for the Green Card application fee. I received this message in my Facebook inbox from Mike Hollis, who serves as an Audio Visual Technician on the team:

“Hey Friends, Some of you know my co-worker Steve Cobb, he recently got married to Aline from Brazil. I recently had a opportunity to sit down with Aline and talk with her about their future plans. She shared with me that they are trying to apply for a permit that will allow her to work here in the US, this will enable her to work, and help with their finances. As she shared with me I could see the burden they are carrying. I also learned that the permit will cost $1000 to obtain.

Our team is working to do something financially to help cover the cost of this application.

If God has placed this family on your heart, and you would like to join us in blessing this family financially, please contact Tanja (tanjac@oakhillschurchsa.org) for more information. Tim G (co-worker) has also set up a PayPal account for them if you wish to donate online click the link below:

If we can get 100 people to donate $10 the goal will be met. =)

Thank You!

  5. Tonight we met our goal of $1000 for Aline to get her green card. Our team counts it as privilege to witness God move in such a great way for this wonderful family. Please continue to lift them up in prayer for the process of achieving the Green Card, and for Steve and Aline as they continue to serve.

This week we witnessed Christ’s Love.
Thank you for your actions of prayer, and selfless giving.

  6. Very Cool! A big thanks to you, Tim and Randy for leading the way to get others involved in helping meet this need!

  7. We got it!!! and I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!!! How amazing you are. My heart is filled with joy because of the Lord working through you all lives. You are Jesus’ hands and feet! I can’t thank you enough. You that donate $5 or you that donate more. It doesn’t matter. What really matter is that you were sensitive to God’s calling to help. This decision will impact my entire life. That’s what we’ve been talking about in Oak Hills Church. Love your neighbor, community, help others. I thank God because we are not just talking about those things, but we are living the word of God. Walking the talking. I don’t have this green card yet, but that is the big first step. Just want to let you know that i will honor your investment. I came to this nation through a exchange program. But the real thing is that God called me to come here to be a missionary here. I wanna serve your country that now is my country through Steven. Is there anything we can do for you? Just let us know and we’ll be happy to serve. The Lord has done great things for us and because of this we are glad =). Steven and i are really thankful for your lives. Thank you Lord!Thank

  8. It is awesome to see God work! He united a group of people for His purposes and when you were a little girl living in Brazil God was preparing you for what he already had prepared for you. It is exciting and encouraging to know that God has been preparing everyone who contributed for this time when he would provide for you and Steven. We will be praying that God will help the application process to go smoothly.
