A Story of God’s Goodness
It was a normal Friday as Karen and I pulled into Barnes & Noble to enjoy the day together. I was searching for a parking place when Karen’s phone rang and she noticed it was her doctor. She had some medical tests performed and was waiting to hear the results. The next few minutes seemed like an eternity.
Through the flood of emotion and waves of discouragement, God brought together a community that encouraged us with prayer and words of Hope from God’s word. Karen and I both rested in knowing that God was not surprised (Your can read Karen’s post on that here: No Surprises). The story of Zac and Noami reminded me of the similar journey our family traveled and I was inspired by the faith and inner strength Zach displayed as he shared their story.

Only God can take the natural and do the supernatural. Only God can give Zac the courage and the peace to live life to the fullest and with purpose in the midst of failing health. Only God can give clarity in the midst of confusion. Zac did not pretend to have all the answers and like Lynn Anderson he has chosen to live life in the green leaf.
Our families prayer is healing, continued courage and peace, strength and comfort for his family. Thank you Zac for sharing your journey of faith.
UPDATE 5/17/2010
I read a tweet yesterday from Perry Noble, Pastor at New Spring Church, Here is what he wrote “To my pastor friends, would REALLY appreciate your prayers…this is the 1st staff funeral I have ever preached…need HIS strength!”
He went on to share in his blog:
“At 3:24 this afternoon I received a text from Shane Duffey, our creative arts pastor, that simply said, “Zac has died.” (Many of you will remember Zac from the video below that we showed at NewSpring Church 12 weeks ago today.)
Zac has been healed…which is a relief to those of us who have watched him suffer these past twelve weeks. We ALL hate to lose him…and we will shed many tears and he will be missed; however, we are also rejoicing at the fact that He is now with Jesus and is experiencing HIS presence in ways that none of us could ever imagine.
I would ask you to please keep Mandy, his wife, in your prayers…as well as their children Luke, Jake and Lizzy. AND I will keep everyone posted as to when Zac’s memorial service will take place. One of his requests to me was that we live stream this service so that his friends from all over the world (literally) could participate.
Also…here is a link to his blog…I encourage you to read through his writings some time this week…he knew what was in his body, he knew pain and suffering in ways many of us will never know…but He KNEW JESUS, and THAT was the difference maker!!!”
Memorial service to CELEBRATE the life of Zac Smith will be on Tuesday at 4pm on the Anderson Campus and online at http://www.newspring.cc/
