Gifts of Water Goal-100 Gifts of $10

I recently saw this twitter post by Matt Knisely:
“In 10 days, on 10.10.10, can we all give $10 to give someone safe water? txt WMI 85944 http://giftsofwater.com/ Who’s in?“
This post led me to wonder what would happen if I set a goal of trying to get 100 $10 gifts within the next 10 days. I am looking for 99 friends to help bring safe water to people who are suffering.
Will you help me reach the goal so that clean water is available to people in need?
The only way I will be able to know if I have reached the goal is if I can get more than 99 comments from those who have given.
As an added incentive to those who join the cause and leave a comment, I will randomly select 5 people to receive a free copy of the book “Sun Stand Still” by Steven Furtick.
Here are some sobering realities about unsafe water:
- Nearly 90 percent of all diseases in the world are caused by unsafe drinking water, inadequate sanitation, and poor hygiene.
- Every year, there are 4 billion cases of diarrhea as a direct result of drinking contaminated water; this results in more than 2.2
million deaths each year—the equivalent of 20 jumbo jets crashing every day. - The weakest members of communities are the most vulnerable; every day water-related diseases claim the lives of 5000 children under the age of five. That’s roughly one every 15 seconds.
Will you be one of the 100 who will give $10 in the next 10 days to help bring safe water to people who are suffering?

Day 2: 16 people have notified me through the blog, twitter or Facebook that they have joined the cause! 84 more to go to reach the goal of 100.
Day 5: 21 people have donated $10 – Someone even anonymously put $10 in cash on my desk at work!
Day 10: a total of 26 people donated $10 adding up to $260 to help bring safe water to people in need. Thanks!
Although I didn’t reach the ultimate goal I am grateful for what we were able to accomplish!
