Creating Thanksgiving Place Cards
If your family likes to create things together like our family, you might enjoy making these. Yesterday Karen came to me and asked if we would get some acorns from our yard and figure out how they could hold some place cards for our Thanksgiving dinner table. We are having 14 for dinner so Mason went out and collected 28 acorns.
We then sat down to make cut 1 inch slits in each acorn. This took about 5 minutes using a hand coping saw.
Glue two acorns together with a hot-glue gun – Slits facing up.
Repeat until you have enough for all place settings.
Next, create a prototype of the cards to get the size you like best. We chose to make the cards 3″ X 3″ and fold in half. Here is the picture of our prototype.
After completing the prototype, Karen and Maddie selected a couple colors from their water color palette and they began painting They choose purple, orange, and brown to paint their textured card stock. The water colors they used were the inexpensive crayola water colors.
It only takes a minute to dry the card stock (you can use a hair dryer).
then it is cut into the 3″ x 3″ size and a leaf shape was punched in the lower left hand corner.
The next thing karen did to the cards was to paint the edge of the card with gold paint.
The final steps were to write the names on the cards and slip the cards into the slits in the acorns. Here is how the final place cards turned out.
You can also add a ribbon if you like. Here is how the place card looks with a table setting.
